Business Broadband (ADSL)

adsl-business-broadband-octagonWhat is ADSL/ Broadband?

Commonly simplified as DSL, Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is technology for high-speed Internet access and uses existing copper telephone lines to send and receive data. ADSL Business Broadband is one of the cheapest options for business internet connectivity.

Over the last few years, Openreach has been upgrading its exchange equipment from ADSL to equipment capable of supporting ADSL2+ (also known as ’21CN’) and have rolled out ADSL2+ services to 92% of UK premises.

The biggest gains from ADSL2+ are achieved for broadband users located close to an exchange. For example, if you are located about 2 km from your exchange you could expect to double your downlink connection speed, from 8Mbps (ADSL) to 17Mbps (ADSL2+). While more distant users will not experience the same gains in absolute speeds, improvements can still be worthwhile. For example, a relatively distant user located 3 km from the exchange, and currently achieving 7Mbps with ADSL, could increase downlink speeds to 9Mbps with ADSL2+.

If you not ADSL 2+ is not available in your area or your line can’t support speeds above 4Mb, we’ll provide you with ADSL Max Broadband (offering download speeds ‘up to’ 8Mb). Although this has a lower maximum speed, it will make sure you get a stable service and a better all-round experience.

We found the advice and support form Octagon in selecting a new phone system helpful when we were sourcing our new system.

The Ridge Medical Centre moved into a brand new purpose built premise and required a new telephone system to handle the large amount of calls they receive each day to provide a service that their patients would be happy with.
