Fibre Broadband (FTTC)

fibre-business-broadband-octagon-lozengeWhat is Fibre broadband?

Fibre broadband (sometimes known as ‘FTTC’, or ‘fibre to the cabinet’) provides connectivity of up to 76Mbps download and up to 19Mbps upload speeds. Fibre broadband delivers faster speeds than traditional ADSL broadband. The FTTC service is currently being rolled out across the UK by Openreach and involves running fibre optic cables from the telephone exchange to street cabinets which then connect to a standard phone line to provide internet access.

Octagon FFTC product uses the Openreach last mile from the cabinet into the business network only. This is combined with a copper cable from the cabinet to the business which uses VDSL2 technology delivering much faster speeds over shorter distances. Fibre broadband is currently enabled on over 1,600 UK exchanges and this is increasing daily.

This product is perfect for businesses that require large download & uploads speeds.

What is traffic prioritisation?

Traffic prioritisation (sometimes referred to as ‘traffic shaping’) means that important traffic will be prioritised across the network, with time and business critical applications such as voice and VPN being at the top of the priority list. HTTP, HTTPS and email will sit in the middle with streaming and P2P last.

How is Fibre broadband supported?

Fibre broadband services are fully supported by a first line support service. This ensures the quickest possible resolution time for any problems that arise.

Under our standard care, any fault will be responded to within 40 hours of notification and the fix time will be confirmed depending on the type of fault. With enhanced care the fault will be responded to within 3 hours and typically cleared within 20 hours.

We found the advice and support form Octagon in selecting a new phone system helpful when we were sourcing our new system.

The Ridge Medical Centre moved into a brand new purpose built premise and required a new telephone system to handle the large amount of calls they receive each day to provide a service that their patients would be happy with.

Octagons service is second to none, their systems always go in on time and on budget and they are easy to get hold of, whether we need to speak with an engineer, accounts or a director, they are there for us. We have worked with Octagon for some time now and we are extremely happy with the service and the products they have provided. I would have no hesitation in recommending them.
